Weekend Recipe: Taco seasoning

Next week, we'll share a great homemade salsa!

If you’re tired of buying taco seasoning packets, or they’re just not your favorite, here is a simple and frugal way to make your own.

1 Tablespoon chili powder

½ teaspoon salt

¼ teaspoon garlic powder

¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper

¼ – ½  of large chopped onion (to taste)

2/3 cup water

1 pound meat

Directions: Brown meat and onions.  Drain off excess fat.  Add seasonings and water.  Simmer 15 minutes.

Tip: I often buy 2 # of meat and double the spices so that we have lots of left-overs for nachos or taco salads.  In fact, you can fry your own tortillas in a couple inches of vegetable oil and have a delicious, authentic taco salad!
