Go Nigeria Pics: Orphans, Widows, & Prostitutes

Living and Ministering like Jesus

Jesus loved sinners, and He loved the needy.  He never turned His back on those who truly knew what to meant to be poor in every way.  I think of His careful attention to children, who were not so highly esteemed in His day….His love for Mary Magdalene who was not pure or upright….His healing touch for the blind, the lame, and even the leprous.  Jesus was a radical who literally touched the dirty and broken.  He didn’t always heal them physically, but He did offer spiritual wholeness and security through trust in Him.

Similarly, in the book of James, James urges us to consider the widows and the orphans: “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.”  (James 1:27)

As such, the Nigeria team was able to care for the widows, orphans, and prostitutes while they were in Jos.

The Orphans– the children were always thrilled to meet new people and get hugs and be important enough to appear in a picture
