Weekend Recipe: Sweet Spaghetti

Sweet Spaghetti

A few weeks ago, we had a delicious sweet spaghetti sauce in a baked pasta dish.  I thought I’d share a similar recipe- you can use it for your traditional spaghetti sauce, or you can add meat, or you can even mix it with pasta and some cheese and make a baked pasta dish.


The brown sugar really adds a wonderful sweetness.1# Italian sausage (optional)

  • 1 # Italian sausage
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 28-ounce cans crushed tomatoes
  • 1 small can of tomato paste
  • handful of chopped basil
  • 1 t dried oregano
  • 1-2 T brown sugar
  • 1T balsamic vinegar
  • Brown the meat with the onion.  Add everything else and either simmer it stovetop for 20 minutes or throw it all i the crock pot for the day.  If you want a baked pasta dish, mix the sauce with cooked noodles and add some mozzarella cheese to the mixture and on top.  Then, bake for 15-20 minutes at 350.
